Playing sound with DOORS.

Does anyone know of a way to play a sound through DOORS?

Specifically, I need to play the sound at the end of the Word export script. The export process can be time consuming and I was hoping to provide some sort of audible alert for the completion of the export.

So far the direction my mind was going on this was:
Is it possible to call the windows API through DOORS?
Is it possible to execute sndrec32.exe from within DOORS?

My final solution (and one that I think would probably work, but which I'd rather not implement) would be to open a word document based on a special purpose template. The template would include an "on open" script which would execute VBA (call the windows API that way) and then close the word document. This seems like quite the hack though. Is there a better way?

One of many approaches is:

system "C:\\Program Files\\Windows Media Player\\wmplayer.exe \"c:\\temp\\wakemeupblues.mp3\""

I went ahead and did the built-in macro in a word template and that worked, but this recommended solution is much nicer. I didn't know the syntax for system calls so if I can use this I'll change and implement sndrec32.exe with command line parameters. Thanks.

Maybe we should all extend our metrics gathering scripts to play a cheer when results are improving and a boo when things haven't improved!

I don't know -- I think I live in the land of the boos already. I don't want to incite management for more help.

... or a baby cooing when good, and (from the Simpsons) "Doh!" when bad.

I finally settled on sounds from Warcraft III. When exporting is complete either the "peasant" voice will say "Job's done!" or the "peon" will say "Work complete!".

Some of us really need to get out more ;-)

Here is my approach. With my example, you can give custom messages to specific users. Think of the fun you can have.

void speakToMe (string foo)
{
        OleAutoObj objSAPI = oleCreateAutoObject("SAPI.SpVoice")
        olePut(objSAPI, "Rate", 0)
        OleAutoArgs oleAutoArgs=create
        put(oleAutoArgs, foo)
        oleMethod(objSAPI, "Speak", oleAutoArgs)

        delete oleAutoArgs
        oleCloseAutoObject(objSAPI)
}

speakToMe("After many years, I have become a Grand Master with DXL")

This IS 'out' for me. When I'm not doing this I'm REALLY a nerd.

Ha ha... it is more like cout for me. People who look at my JAVA source code are tricked because they think it is C++ code.

Anyone else notice that in his example, when it "speaks" it says "After many years, I have become a Grand Master with 540."? At least it does for me.

But yeah Dennis Lockshine showed me an example of that 2 years ago at the Telelogic conference. Was pretty cool.

And programming it to sing "Baby got Back" is hilarious.

Well DXL is roman numerals for 540! change the string to "After many years, I have become a Grand Master with dxl" does the trick :-)
